Seniors golf had started in the USA and Canada with the formation of Seniors’ Golf Associations in 1905 and 1918 respectively. However, it was not until December 1926 that Britain got its first organisation for Senior golfers with the formation of the Seniors Golfer’s Society for players over the age of 55. These days, Seniors are classed as players who have reached the age of 50.

The Senior PGA Championship is the leading event for Seniors in the USA and was inaugurated in 1937. It became the first of Senior Golf ‘s Majors in 1980. Five events currently make up the list of Majors. The others being: US Senior Open (1980), Senior Players Championship (1983), The Tradition (1989), and the Senior British Open (2003). The figures in brackets indicate the year the Championship became a Major. All five Majors are played over four rounds of 18 holes, while ost other seniors’ events are played over 54 holes.

The two leading individual events for Seniors are the Senior PGA Championship (USA) and Senior British Open, while the two leading Seniors’ Tours are the PGA Tour Champions in the USA and the European Seniors Tour, currently known as the Legends Tour.

All the following records are correct up to the end of 2025 unless otherwise stated.
