The first man to shoot a round under 60 on the PGA Tour was Al Geiberger on 10th June 1977 when he carded a 59 in the second round of the Danny Thomas Memphis Classic. He eventually won by two shots from South Africa’s Gary Player.

After Geiberger’s record-breaking round, five men also shot rounds of 59 on the Tour:

... and then, on 7 August 2016 in the Travelers Championship at Cromwell, Connecticut, Jim Furyk uniquely broke 60 for the second time and on that occasion shot a new Tour record 58 in the final round. Despite his record-breaking round, Furyk still finished three shots behind the winner Russell Knox but his 58 did promote him from 70th place at the start of the final round to joint fifth.

The only official round under 60 on the PGA European Tour is 59 by Oliver Fisher (England) in the 2018 Portugal Masters at Villamoura, Portugal.

Jorge Campillo (Spain) and Colin Nel (South Africa) both recorded rounds of 59 in the 2013 Nelson Mandela Championship at Durban. A joint Sunshine Tour/European PGA Tour event, the scores were not ratified as official because preferred lies were in operation at the time due to the bad weather conditions.
